The following is a working artist statement and will not be finalized until the conclusion of my Self Portrait series this coming April. I hope that this will provide my watchers with some insight into my reasons for pursuing this project and also my methodology. All of my work, with the exception of commissions, has been, and will probably continue to be, some form of self portraiture. It has been portraiture by proxy however, and the images always represented some part of me but not my whole self. I have been skirting around this issue for a long time but now I am addressing the subject matter in a more direct way. The idea of "knowing thyself" seems like a worthwhile endeavor, so I will attempt to be more honest about it in the future.
My self portraits are an ongoing meditation in keeping with this newfound resolve. They also serve as a record, a way of keeping track of how and who I was each day. Through my imperfect hand, the portraits will tell a story of how and what I am feeling, who I am, and how I see myself over the course of an entire year.
I started this series, not really knowing where it would take me and I remain unsure of what I will learn through the process. However, at the risk of sounding cliche, the point is not the destination, but the journey.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for watching.
Deviants of Interest:

It takes a lot of discipline to keep that up.
I've thought about doing the self portrait series but I don't much like looking at myself even when I shave in the morning.... I've always thought that art should be about beauty so I've kind of discarded self portraits in my case.. It's kind of like taking the "beauty" concept and going south with it!!!
Now in your case it's different... my compliments

Nothing wrong with doing something strictly for the joy of it - don't have to reinvent the wheel. Just here to have fun. Like my feedback? Put me on your dAwatch & let's make it a 2-way street.
