Robin Sena, Witch Hunter Robin
Painter

Inspired by The Burning Time by the lovely ~misora32. Of course, this probably means that I'll have to make a companion piece with "il cacciatore". Not that I mind ^_~.

By the way, I'm really starting to like Painter. Though, I know that I still have a long way to go before I'm able to utilize it to its full potential.

Edit: Many thanks to ~Marathiel for pointing out the rather nasty flaw on her cheekbone. 'Twas completely unintentional. While I was at it, I reworked some of the shadows that are cast by her hair as well. I'm a bit happier with it now.

may I ask how you saved this piece? (like a GIF or JPG for example)
no matter what I do, my quality just drops big time on my digital pieces.
I really love this piece and how softly and subtley it is shaded, but if I were to attempt something similar to this it would be fuzzy and ick after I saved it :(

All of my Photoshop files, like this painting, get saved as PSDs so that I can keep a high res version where the layers remain separated. When I'm scanning a traditional piece or converting a PSD to a web-ready graphic, I generally use the PNG format because it doesn't compress the file and result in artifacting (which is probably what you've been experiencing with JPG and GIF). I only use JPG when it's necessary to save space - such as when I have to send files in emails.

This is lovely.
I love the tones and how it all blends..
Her face is so sharp and beautiful, and so detailed, contrary to her simple hair.. It's so pretty xD.

The feel of this is beautiful, eerie and haunting. It's full of warmth, and at the same time very foreboding.

I am so in love with the way her nose, lips, and chin stand out..those are some of my favorite parts of the face, the nose especially  The warm earthy colors of this are also very attractive.

Ohh...*soooo* beautiful. Her delicate, haunted features...the hair...the dress... I am in total awe. ^^

I know I say this all the time, but I *LOVE* your work. And the fact that you're drawing TBT illustrations just continues to absolutely floor me. :faint:

Geez woman! Your use of values and color never cease to amaze me! I love how the figure fades into/materializes the background. It's very ghostly and beautiful. :D

^______^. Thank you~

I wanted to allude to Robin and Amon (in the following piece) being from the earth. But, the ghostly ressonance was important too as, in the fanfic that I was working from, they are people who have existed for multiple generations.

Kind of appealed to my Xeno-sensibilities ^_~.

It is really beautiful, and as always, you make such pretty and mature faces! Even though ... the abscess thing on her cheek slightly throws me off. Was it on purpose?
Way to go on painter though, I could never get it to work for me. =o

You're right. That was very distracting once I noticed it. What can I say? This piece was something that just sort of spilled out of me late last night and I wasn't as critical as I usually am. Thanks for pointing it out ^_^.

Actually, what I've really come to love about painter is the blending tool. It comes pretty close to mimicing how I work with oils *nodsnods*

Thanks again!

It just feels like you would be reading my mind... I have watech the entire series once again lately amd I totally fell in love with it again (actually working on a WHR fanart as well).
And I love the simple form you have chosen for it, the monochrome colours and almost invisible shades. Very original and simply beautiful^^

Oh! I can't wait to see your fanart! You do such a beautiful job! *_*

The series really is amazing, isn't it? It's so understated, but it really grabs you if you give it a chance.

Thank you for your nice comment ^____^.

I have already posted the picture, it's nothing so special, but I hope, you will like it.

Indeed, it is great, one of my very favourite and I could watch it all over again;p

You're welcome. Your fanarts are really the first ones, from what I have seen, that I really loved at the first sight.

She looks great! The way you've got her blending into the background, and yet still different enough to stand out... Love her expression too, and her hair looks great! *never understood how her hair defied the laws of gravity*
Beautiful work!

Robin is a very special girl ^_~.

I was wondering how far I could push it with this one. How closely can colors relate to each other before they become a single color. How much contrast do you really need to describe form?

Plus, I just liked "grounding" her in an earthy spectrum.

Thank you very much ^_^.

Painter's an awesome tool. I like your use of the background color as a tone for the rest of the painting - it brings it all together very nicely.. i like your choice to keep her shirt simple and in harmony with the background tone, and the way her hands and hair are kind of gently implied by the lighter tones. nice job on her face. :)
